Community Action Volunteer - South Wales

Role reports to: Volunteer Coordinator

You will contribute to ending homelessness by

Supporting Crisis at a range of events, both in the Skylight and in the community to help raise awareness. These events will support the work Crisis does year round where we need an extra helping hand to make a big difference.

You could be stewarding events such as half marathons to cheer on our runners, help set up and represent Crisis for the day or you could be supporting us over the Christmas period to collect donations to give out to members or helping out at one of our member events such as forums and celebrations. 


  • Good communication skills
  • Good timekeeping and reliability
  • Non-judgmental, friendly and confident in talking to a range of people
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries
  • Be positive, productive and have a passion to help end homelessness
  • Someone who is looking to be involved on a flexible basis to help with a range of tasks


  • Experience of volunteering for a national organisation in a variety of ways. 
  • The opportunity to share existing or develop new skills in a friendly, supportive environment
  • A full online training and induction
  • Opportunities to work with staff and fellow volunteers during the year and an invite to our member celebrations where you can help us recognise the achievements of our members
  • Regular meetings with your supervisor to discuss how your volunteering is going and what other opportunities may be available
  • Confidence in working with a wide range of people
  • A reference from a reputable organisation
  • Reimbursement of agreed expenses 


  • Supporting and attending Crisis events as needed
  • Providing support with logistics and delivery of events
  • Helping to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere at our events for members
  • Attending promotional events with Crisis staff and members to talk about the work Crisis does
  • Helping to source and collect items donated to us
  • Providing other support to the Skylight as directed

We expect volunteers to comply with Crisis policies including health and safety, data protection and code of conduct at all times.

  • Travel and lunch expenses are reimbursed where appropriate
  • We strive to ensure that our services are welcoming, remain relevant and are fully accessible to everyone that we help and support. We are particularly welcoming of volunteers from diverse and other marginalised communities, as this helps us ensure the best experience for those that we are here to help.  People who have lived experience of homelessness are also particularly welcome to apply.
