Furniture Workshop Volunteer

Location: Liverpool

When: 10:00 - 15:30, 1 day per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays

We are looking for volunteers to join our workshop team, upcycling furniture to be sold across our 9 shops from Crisis and online platforms. These exciting roles offer volunteers the opportunity to be part of a small team in a fun and creative workshop environment. Volunteers will be involved at each stage of the restoration process, learning how to operate power tools and developing D.I.Y. and woodwork skills to a professional standard.  

All profits made from the sales of our furniture are used to fund year-round services for our members.

  • A back-ground or interest in woodwork and / or D.I.Y. skills
  • Enthusiasm to learn and be creative
  • Good listening skills
  • An ability to follow direction and take the initiative as and when required
  • Good timekeeping and reliability
  • A non-judgmental, patient and friendly attitude
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries 
    Be positive, productive and have a passion to help end homelessness

  • Health and Safety skills to a professional standard

  • A reference from a reputable organisation (for character reference min. three months of volunteering)  
  • Following the direction of the team to maintain safety in the workshop environment
  • Contribute to the design of furniture pieces
  • Preparation and renovation of vintage and reclaimed furniture  
  • Preparing furniture for shipping
  • Warehousing and distribution of furniture  

We expect volunteers to comply with Crisis policies including health and safety, data protection and code of conduct at all times. 

  • Travel and lunch expenses are reimbursed
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided

  • The role includes manual handling and volunteering in an active workshop, as such this role is not suitable for people with dust allergies, asthma or those unable to perform physical tasks
