Reception Volunteer

Location: London

When: Tues 9am -4pm ( or half day if needed)

Role reports to: Receptionist

You will contribute to ending homelessness by

Providing reception support to the Crisis Skylight staff, facilitating efficient running of the reception, allowing us to support more people out of homelessness. 


  • Excellent IT skills with the ability to use the internet, email and Microsoft Office including Excel  
  • Excellent communication skills – able to adapt approach and style and communicate well with a range of people from a variety of marginalised communities, who may have diverse and complex needs
  • Good time-keeping and reliability 
  • Non-judgemental, patient and friendly 
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining boundaries 
  • Be positive, productive and have a passion to help end homelessness 


  • Workplace experience in a national organisation

  • Supporting the reception area in person, ensuring a welcoming and enthusiastic reception for visitors and members 
  • To respond to telephone requests and make telephone calls 
  • To help out with any other general administration that is needed 
  • Explain the Crisis timetable and talk to members about the activities listed therein 
  • Ensuring promotional materials are available and up to date in all areas / venues 
  • Contacting members and volunteers regarding appointments and classes 
  • Conduct research as required (e.g. appropriate venues for display of promotional material; potential providers of prizes) 


We expect volunteers to comply with Crisis policies including health and safety, data protection and code of conduct at all times.

  • Travel and lunch expenses are reimbursed where appropriate
